Virginia Democrats Defeat Every Single Pro-Life Bill
Over the course of a few days the last pro-life bills introduced by Senate and House of Delegate members met their fate in General Assembly Committees controlled entirely by pro-abortion members.
Last Friday the Seante Version of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, patroned by Sen. Sturtevant-R, was defeated in a Senate Education and Health Committee. The House version was defeated two weeks ago. Proof that there is no interest in providing life saving care to babies that are born after an attempt to end their live by abortion.
Unsurprisingly, on Tuesday afternoon three more bills in the House of Delegates met a similar fate. VSHL testified in support of each of these bills and we are grateful to the Patrons for carrying them in spite of the odds against passage.
HB 1428, Griffin (R), was a bill to require that the Secretary of Health and Human Services to create a website that lists all the private and public programs available in Virginia to assist pregnant women and new mothers. Currently there is no information like that available on the state website.

HB 542, Hamilton (R), required that before performing an abortion the person performing the abortion must tell the mother that Virginia has a Safe Haven law which allows her to place her baby anonymously in the care of a hospital, police station. First aid or Firehouse with in 30 days of the birth. The women had to sign a document that she had been told this information.
HB 719, Zehr (R), would have required health education instruction to include an oral, written, or digital lesson, lecture, or presentation about human biology relating to pregnancy and human development inside the uterus, including (i) a high-definition ultrasound video and (ii) a high-quality, computer-generated rendering or animation showing the process of fertilization and every stage of human development inside the uterus, noting significant markers in cell growth and organ development for each significant marker of pregnancy until birth. The bill requires any family life education curriculum or similar curriculum offered by a local school to also include such a video and rendering or animation.
All three of these reasonable bills were defeated by a motion to “Lay on the Table”, which means that are not going anywhere this year. Elections have consequences.
