Two critically injured after apparent DUI crash in East Bay
ANTIOCH — A 21-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl were in critical condition at a hospital following a single-car crash early Thursday that appears to be alcohol-related, police said.
The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. to the area of Lone Tree Way and Dallas Ranch Road.
In a statement, Antioch police Lt. Michael Mellone said the 17-year-old was driving and the two both were trapped in the vehicle after the crash. Emergency personnel used life-saving measures to get them in an ambulance and off to a hospital. Both had major injuries, and one of the two had life-threatening injuries. Police declined to specify who it was.
Mellone said the preliminary investigation indicated that alcohol appears to be a factor in the wreck, along with speeding. In the statement, he added a reminder that “impaired driving puts lives at risk. If you plan to drink, please designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service or arrange alternate transportation.”
Police are looking for clues in the crash and asked anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the moments leading up to the wreck or after it to contact Officer Joshua Egan at jegan@antiochca.gov or 925-778-2441.
