AI in a browser tab: How to use Copilot Mode in Edge
Microsoft’s Edge browser includes a relatively new Copilot mode that brings AI directly into new tabs–but you’ve got to activate it first. Once enabled, Copilot adds an AI input window to new tabs, letting you compare the contents of other open tabs, among other things. For example, you can summarize hotel reviews on different websites or compare news on the same topic.
To turn on Copilot mode, click on the three dots in the top right corner of Edge and go to “Settings.” In the next window, select “AI Innovations” from the list on the left and toggle “Enable Copilot mode” to “On.” Clicking “Settings for Copilot Mode” lets you turn Edge’s new Copilot color scheme on or off.
Use “Focus on the new tab page” to control whether the cursor is in the address bar or the AI field when you open a new tab. Next, open two or more tabs with websites on the same topic, such as articles covering the same subject. In a third tab, enter a command such like: Compare the open tabs and summarize the news on topic X.
This feature is also useful for hotel or restaurant reviews–you don’t need to switch back and forth between different tabs, you can simply view a summary.
