2 teens arrested after brawl during basketball game at Bronzeville high school prompts large police response
Charges were pending for two 16-year-olds who were arrested when a brawl erupted after a basketball game at Dunbar Vocational Career Academy, prompting a large police response Wednesday night at the Bronzeville school.
Officers responded to the school, 3000 S. King Dr., for the fight where a 16-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were both arrested as officers were trying to intervene, Chicago police said.
In a note to community members, Dunbar principal Richard McMillan said that the fight involved school community members and staffers who "helped de-escalate the situation and also notified the Chicago Police Department for additional support."
"Safety continues to be my top priority," McMillan said in the note. "While I cannot provide additional details for privacy reasons, I want to assure you that this situation is being handled in accordance with CPS policies."
"We will continue striving to help our students reach their full potential and exemplify our core values both in the classroom and in their extracurricular pursuits," McMillan added.
