Former unregistered NDIS director faces 15-year jail term for alleged $858k misuse
The former director of an Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider faces a possible 15-year jail term over the alleged misuse of $858,000 in company funds.
The accused, Byson James Kete Turner (Byson James Kete Attrill-Green), is a former director of Links Support and Consulting Services Pty Ltd. (Links), an NDIS provider, and has been charged with offences relating to transactions involving gambling, lottery, and trading platforms.
Turner accused of diverting funds to alleged betting accounts
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigated Turner’s account activity.
As a result of the ASIC findings, Turner has been charged with eight counts of dishonestly using his position as a director to gain an advantage, each carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment, and two counts of failing to attend compulsory ASIC examinations, each punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment.
It has been alleged, between September 4, 2019, and July 18, 2022, Turner used his position as a director of Links to “unlawfully make 2,782 separate transfers totalling $858,948 from Links to the following (gambling) accounts in his name,” said the ASIC report.
ASIC alleged ex-NDIS director held multiple gambling accounts
The former director was asked by the regulator to attend separate hearings and failed to do so. The report stated that “on 10 May 2024 and 30 May 2024, Mr Turner failed to comply with a requirement made under the ASIC Act to attend two separate ASIC examinations when compelled to do so.”
Turner appeared at Perth Magistrates Court on February 6, 2026. The matter was adjourned until April 17, 2026, and is being prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) (CDPP).
The gambling operator accounts that Turner was led to hold included Sportsbet, Apple, TABTouch, NetLotto, LottoGo, Lotterywest, Oz Lotto and Plus500AU. ASIC reported that on February 14, 2023, Links Support and Consulting Services was placed under the control of a liquidator.
