What Tottenham squad felt about Thomas Frank amid ‘small coach’ and ’10 per cent’ reveal
A new report has shed light on what kind of impression Thomas Frank made on the Tottenham first-team during his tenure.
As is the norm after a manager is sacked, there have been plenty of reports over the last 24 hours explaining all that had gone wrong at Hotspur Way over the last eight months.
It has been claimed that the Tottenham players felt from day one that Frank had put too much emphasis on the opposition rather than focusing on the Spurs’ strengths.
Frank also reportedly raved about Arsenal a lot, and many Spurs players were sick of hearing how great a team their North London rivals were.
Tottenham players felt restricted by Thomas Frank’s tactics
The Athletic have revealed that despite Frank’s public assertions of wanting to make a cultural change at the club, he never managed to make much of an impression on the players.
Many members of the Spurs squad did not enjoy the limiting nature of his tactics either.
In fact, the report reveals that one source close to the first-team squad remarked that the Dane was ultimately perceived as being a coach for a ‘smaller team’, as he was primarily focused on a compact defensive shape and counter-attacks.
It is alleged that one player felt that he was only able to perform at ’10 per cent’ of his potential due to the restrictions imposed on him by the 52-year-old.
Frank did not rate the Spurs squad
The Athletic also reveal that Frank told those close to him at the club that he expected a ‘painful’ second-half of the season in North London.
The Dane reportedly felt that while Tottenham have great facilities, they also had a squad which was low on quality.
Finally, the report adds that the players would often get too down on themselves after defeats, with the mood described as ‘miserable’ at Hotspur Way during Frank’s final two months in charge.
