Lake View, Bronzeville neighborhood murders linked: police reports
Two assailants who left a 22-year-old man lying dead in a Lake View street after shooting him and fleeing in his car apparently gunned down another man an hour later and 12 miles away in the Bronzeville neighborhood, according to police reports.
Police learned of the connection when the 22-year-old's vehicle was found at the scene of the second man’s murder, in the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side, according to the reports.
The names of both men have not been released yet, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Autopsies are scheduled.
The first attack happened at 4 a.m. in the 700 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to police, who reviewed video that showed two attackers confronting the 22-year-old and a 38-year-old man who were seated in a parked vehicle in the according to a police report.
As a “physical confrontation” erupted among the four, the 22-year-old was shot and the two attackers jumped into his vehicle and sped away, leaving the 22-year-old Humboldt Park neighborhood man lying unresponsive in the street near the curb at 767 W. Waveland Ave., the report said.
The 38-year-old man was not injured.
About one hour later in the 3700 block of South Lake Park Avenue, Wentworth District police officers responded to a call of a person shot and found an unidentified man with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, also lying in the street a few feet away from a vehicle with its doors open, according to another police report.
The man, who police described as a “John Doe,” was pronounced dead at 5:03 a.m. by paramedics on the scene.
After going through all the evidence on the scene, detectives found the vehicle left on the scene with its doors open was the same car used in the murder and carjacking of the 22-year-old, the report said.
Area 3 and Area 1 detectives are investigating and nobody has been arrested.
