Contact made: Man Utd now hold "private meeting" to sign winger with 3 dribbles/game
Manchester United are likely to bolster their forward department during the summer transfer window.
A wide attacking player could be signed by the Red Devils, and it appears RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is a prime target.
Sky Sport CH reporter Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that United have had a ‘private meeting’ with his entourage.
Diomande recently joined Roc Nation Sports as his new agency, but Maxidel Management are in charge of his short-term future.
Maxidel played a big part in bringing him from Leganes to Leipzig, and have a private agreement to negotiate his next move.
United are one of the clubs that have spoken with Maxidel, but a deal is complicated by the fact that they own his image rights (until 2031).
Maxidel and Diomande need to be compensated €7 million and €5 million, respectively, in the event of a violation of those rights.
Tavolieri claims that no interested teams would risk finalising a transfer until the legal situation is clarified.
Diomande speculation could be agent-driven
The Ivory Coast international has had a superb start to his Leipzig career. The former Leganes man has registered eight goals and six assists from 22 appearances.
He has played on either wing for the Bundesliga giants, but the right wing is his strong position. All of his goal contributions have come from the right flank for Leipzig.
He has also impressed with other attributes. The 19-year-old has completed 3.4 dribbles per game with 5.4 duels and one tackle won. He has averaged 4.1 recoveries.
Diomande has been mesmerising in his short spell in German football, but United could be reluctant to spend over the odds to sign someone after just half a season.
Leipzig are eyeing a staggering €100m for a player who was signed for just €20m last summer.
United may want a new wide attacking option, but the priority could be given to a left-sided winger.
The club are well equipped on the right wing with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo alongside young academy graduate Shea Lacey, who could break into the first team soon.
On the opposite end, there is room for a strong competitor to Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu. Dorgu is a left-back by trade, but he has recently reinvented himself as a winger.
United need to focus on strengthening their defensive midfield this summer. There could be two signings made with Casemiro’s free transfer and Manuel Ugarte’s potential exit.
Hence, United are unlikely to pay €100m to land Diomande. The transfer link could be agent-driven through Maxidel, who probably want to secure a sizeable brokerage fee.
