Ram And Jeep Just Issued A Recall For More Than 450,000 Cars
Towing is a serious matter. Pulling thousands of pounds with your car that also weighs thousands of pounds means there's a ton of mass and inertia at work. Automakers have trailer brakes and control modules installed in their vehicles to help facilitate braking, working lights, and more. Ram and Jeep, both owned by the Stellantis auto conglomerate, have just issued a huge recall covering failures in their trailer tow modules, with more than 450,000 trucks and SUVs subject to the recall.
Stellantis recalls cars for faulty trailer tow module components

Per filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the automakers say a total of 456,287 vehicles were built with improperly designed trailer tow modules. The faulty componentry can lead to a "loss of trailer lighting and/or trailer brakes." Evidently, one of those is more severe than the other, but the filings indicate that no matter what, every recalled unit will be affected.
This is a little out of the ordinary. Most automakers issue a recall, believing a certain percentage of the affected units will actually have the defect they're looking to remedy. For an entire crop of 450,000+ vehicles to need a fix is rare. A majority of the recalled units consist of Ram's 1500 trucks, with 312,365 units recalled. However, only 57 Cherokees and 320 Wagoneer S EVs fall under the recall. Meanwhile, another 96,890 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks and a further 30,142 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks round out the final few recalled models. You can see a full list of affected model years for each below.
- 2024-2026 Jeep Wagoneer S
- 2026 Jeep Cherokee
- 2025-2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500
- 2025-2026 Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 Cab Chassis
Owners will be notified by March 24, 2026
The crop of affected vehicles was assembled between September 27, 2023, and November 8, 2025. Owners quickly became aware of the issue, with filings indicating the automakers were aware of 108 customer assistance records, 107 warranty claims, 101 field reports, and 285 repair orders potentially relating to the recall. Replacement should be simple, with automakers installing an updated trailer tow module that'll hopefully be free of fault. In the meantime, owners can expect to be notified of the issue on or before March 24, 2026, and can check this site to see if their vehicle is subject to the recall.
