Tottenham owners received two recommendations to sack Thomas Frank from high-profile figures
The Telegraph’s Matt Law has revealed who was responsible for Tottenham Hotspur finally deciding to pull the plug on the Thomas Frank project.
Tottenham fell to 16th place in the Premier League table after their 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle United on Tuesday, which left them winless in their last eight league games.

However, after the game, Frank confidently asserted that he was ‘convinced’ he would still be in charge for the North London derby.
We know now that the confidence was entirely misplaced, with Tottenham sacking the Dane this morning after a disastrous eight months at the helm.
Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange recommended Tottenham’s sacking of Thomas Frank
It has now been reported by The Telegraph’s Matt Law that the decision to sack the 52-year-old came right from the top.
He revealed that the club’s CEO, Vinai Venkatesham and the sporting director, Johan Lange, both recommended to the Lewis Family that Frank should be sacked following the loss to the Magpies.
Of course, it was the owners themselves who made the final decision on Frank’s dismissal, and the Newcastle defeat proved to be the last straw for the Lewis Family.
Law adds in his article that, despite their previous decision to stand by the former Brentford boss, the feeling among the Tottenham board was that Frank’s position had become untenable after the latest defeat.
Which manager could Spurs now turn to?
It has been suggested that Tottenham could appoint John Heitinga as an interim head coach until the end of the season. This is despite the Dutchman arriving at Hotspur Way less than a month ago as the first-team assistant coach.
However, there are several other candidates the Spurs could turn to if they go the interim route, including Ryan Mason, who is now a free agent after being sacked by West Brom.
