100% tackles, 100% duels: £52m Man Utd star could start vs Everton after dazzling West Ham display, not Sesko
Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro delivered a sublime defensive performance during the 1-1 Premier League draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium last night.
The Red Devils were on a four-match winning streak prior to the game, but they could not continue the run. Despite this, the club will be pleased to secure a point from the fixture.
West Ham scored early in the second half through Tomas Soucek after a defensive mishap from United, and looked on course for a victory until Benjamin Sesko’s very late equaliser.
Sesko ensured that United stayed fourth in the league table, but Yoro had an equally good outing. He was quite brilliant, coming off the bench to replace Harry Maguire in the 68th minute.
The £52 million signing has been out of the picture for a starting role with interim manager Michael Carrick sticking with Maguire and Lisandro Martinez as his regular centre-backs.
The Lille graduate showed his quality yesterday with some key defensive involvements. The Frenchman won 100 percent of his tackles and 100 percent of his duels at the London Stadium.
Most importantly, the wonderkid made a couple of vital blocks in the box when West Ham were leading 1-0.
Adama Traore in particular looked on course to find the back of the net but was denied a shot on target by Yoro.
Maguire was spotted holding his hamstring in the 34th minute after a recovery challenge on Summerville. He was able to continue until his 68th-minute substitution when Yoro replaced him.
The Englishman has earned his spot since his injury comeback, but it remains to be seen whether he has any concern. United will no doubt assess his fitness with plenty of time left before the next game.
The Red Devils don’t play again until February 23, when they face Everton on the road. If Maguire is deemed unfit to start, Yoro could get the nod in the right centre-back position against the Toffees.
