Davies and Merricks (19 replies)
In the space of two days the managers of both the Men’s and Women’s teams have, in my view, decided not to start games with our best teams.
On Sunday Merricks left our current in-form women’s player Sarri on the bench and didn’t introduce her until the last quarter of the game.
Similarly Davies last night left Vincente on the bench and then introduced him at around 58minutes. Indeed at the beginning of the game Davies left £13million of signings, Vincent’s and Priske, on the bench.
Now we don’t know the full facts, eg there may have been injury niggles etc, but if fully fit Sarri’s and Vincente’s dropping to the bench appeared bizarre decisions.
Both teams have strengths in depth now but at the start of such important games the managers didn’t appear to want to field our best teams.
I hope it’s not arrogance because we can’t afford such and I trust that there were good reasons not to start games with our best players. If the latter is wrong then both made huge mistakes in my view and, as the result, both winnable games were drawn.
