Tottenham player ratings vs Newcastle United – Relegation is a reality

The full-time whistle has blown in the Premier League match between Tottenham and Newcastle United, and it’s time for our player ratings.

Tottenham Hotspur’s winless Premier League run in 2026 continued again tonight following Newcastle’s 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Guglielmo VicarioThe Italian conceded two tonight and should have parried the effort away from danger for Newcastle’s first. For the second, however, there was nothing he could have done to prevent it. 5.

Archie GrayThe full-back was Spurs’ most consistent performer tonight. He grabbed his goal after reacting quickest to Pape Matar Sarr’s header across goal. He also created Tottenham’s best chance of the second half after his run from full-back saw him put in a cross, but Tel failed to keep his shot down. In the first half, he was conservative, but he did take the handbrake off for a couple of minutes in the second half. 7.

Radu Dragusin It was a mixed performance from the Romanian, who had a few nervy moments in this encounter. In the first half, his choice to step up in the press pulled him out of position and allowed Willock to get in behind Spurs’ defence, although he was offside. In the second half, no such nervy moments came from him. 5.

Micky van de VenThe Dutchman was aggressive in the first half and often pushed up to defend and close down his man. In the second half it was more of the same, with Van de Ven also getting a few blocks in to prevent Vicario from being overly tested. He played a role in Spurs’ equaliser, doing enough to prevent Pope from claiming the corner. He came close to grabbing an equaliser after the ball fell to him in the Newcastle box but he fired high. 7.

Djed Spence The full-back barely had many opportunities to push up on the left flank for Tottenham and was focused on defending that left-hand side throughout both halves. 5.

Pape Matar SarrGrabbed the assist for Archie Gray’s equaliser following a corner in the second half. He also looked to push forward when he could in the second forty-five minutes. He played a shot from range, but Pope was equal to it. He was booked in the first half for simulation as well. 6.

Yves BissoumaThe Malian featured for just forty-five minutes, where he helped sweep things up in midfield, covering for Gray, before he was taken off for Joao Palhinha at the start of the second half. 5.

Conor Gallagher He was the most advanced of Tottenham’s midfield three and, as a result, he saw loads of the ball. In the first half he created Spurs’ best opportunity, but Simons did not convert. In the second half he continued to press from the front and operated a lot more from the right. He did, however, give the ball away cheaply following a fast break for Tottenham, with his pass short and leading to Newcastle scoring from that moment. 5.

Xavi Simons The Dutch international did have a few good moments in the first half when he got on the end of a Gallagher cross following a fast break, but he failed to hit the target. In the second half he continued to get on the ball and often looked to spearhead Spurs’ attacks. He did, however, become the second player to be booked for simulation for Tottenham. 6.5.

Dominic Solanke In the first forty-five, the Tottenham centre-forward did not have any joy against both Thiaw and Botman, and that remained the case in the second half, with Solanke having no influence in attack. 4.

Wilson Odobert The young Frenchman became the latest to pick up an injury for Tottenham and was taken off late in the first half. 5.

Substitutes

Mathys Tel – Odobert’s injury forced Tel’s introduction late in the first half. However, it was not until the second forty-five that the winger started having an influence on proceedings. His first sight of goal saw him cut inside onto his right from the left, but he fired high. He then had another opportunity when Gray’s cutback found him in the box, but he failed to keep it down. 5.

Joao Palhinha – The Portuguese came on in the second half for Yves Bissouma and went straight into Tottenham’s midfield as Frank looked to disrupt some of Newcastle’s rhythm. Palhinha did do that, with Spurs seeing more of the ball in the second half. 6.

Randal Kolo Muani – The Frenchman came on for Gallagher and went straight to the right as Frank sought more width in attack. The striker did not have any clear sight of goal, although he saw loads of the ball. 5.
