'Tell Me Lies' Star Spencer House Confirms That Wrigley-Pippa Scene Was 'Consensual,' Teases 'Closure' in Finale (Exclusive)

Tell Me Lies Season 3, Episode 7 is now live on Hulu, and a lot went down for the Baird College friend group.

In the episode, Bree (Cat Missal) and Wrigley (Spencer House), confirm they have feelings for one another and even go so far as to declare they will be breaking up with their respective partners. Wrigley promptly ends things with Pippa (Sonia Mena), who does not take it well.

At Bree’s photography show, Wrigley gets a call from Pippa to come comfort her after Diana (Alicia Crowder), who she’s been secretly hooking up with, tells her she wants to end things.

Pippa requests one final night with Wrigley, and they do end up sleeping together.

We got a chance to sit down with Spencer and discuss the episode.

Just Jared: Some fans online are concerned the sex scene with Pippa was not consensual, especially given what happened to Pippa earlier in the show. What is going through Wrigley’s head in that moment that Pippa’s requesting he spend the night with her?

Spencer House: I definitely think it is consensual. I don’t think this was against his will in any way…I think he still has a strong connection with her and I think more than anything he just wants to see her happy and he doesn’t want to break her heart. So that’s why he does it, rather than [them being] romantic interests and I think he does feel very guilty about what happens with Bree.

On the day [of filming], we were very careful about that. But at the end of the day, he very much makes the decision to have sex with her…I don’t think that’s what this story is.

I think he does still love Pippa, maybe not romantically, but he is attracted to her, and he makes the decision to do so, I think.

JJ: There’s a line at the top of the episode where Wrigley says to Bree, “I also want to not be a complete f-ck up who hurts everybody.” Will Wrigley end up feeling this way at the end of episode 7?

SH: He might. I think I could see a world in which in between college and the wedding, he’s a little…less careful around everyone. I think Wrigley gets smarter every year, if that makes sense, with there being a massive rise in wisdom that is in direct effect from his brother’s death.

JJ: When Bree doesn’t answer Wrigley’s phone call, was he intending to tell Bree what happened with Pippa?

SH: Yeah, I think he’s trying to get a hold of her for that exact reason. Talk to her before it gets to her.

JJ: There’s also a moment at the photography show where Evan sees a photo of Wrigley that was taken by Bree. Do you think there’s some element where Wrigley is worried that Evan knows something could be up between them?

SH: Well, I think the danger is always there. I think he doesn’t want this to blow up in a way that they don’t intend. And I think, there’s a moment of panic with Wrigley. One of the biggest photos on the wall is not him, but Wrigley. So I definitely think that there is a moment of like panic and just trying to change the subject.

JJ: Is Wrigley thinking he might lose his friendship with Evan?

SH: I don’t think Wrigley wants to be a bad person. I don’t think Wrigley wants to hurt people. But I definitely don’t think Wrigley loves Evan. I don’t think he loves most of the group. I think he’s romantically in love with Bree and I think he loves Pippa as a friend, a close friend.

JJ: It feels like a lot of story lines to wrap up in the final episode. Do you have a message to fans who are worried that – if this is the final season – that they will get answers to some of the loose ends that are floating around.

SH: I do feel that the story wraps up nicely and I think there is a bit of a feeling of closure with each character, I felt that way. Whenever there’s one more episode to go for any show, there’s always a big worry, of course. You spend so much time with a show, you’re hoping that it wraps up. And I felt that it did. But you know, everyone always has a different opinion.

JJ: And to fans specifically of Bree and Wrigley, do you have any words ahead of the finale?

SH: I guess just stay tuned because if I give too many words, it’ll kind of give away whether or not it’s going to be a happy ending or not for them.
