This Popular Canceled NBC Show Is Getting a New Season On Fox
Fans of Running Wild With Bear Grylls have been dry since 2023, when the last episode of the series aired. Running Wild was like if Carpool Karaoke met Survivor. Grylls took A-list celebrities, from Zac Efron to Barack Obama, into the wilderness for 48 hours and put them through survival challenges, from walking through an eel-infested swamp to rope crawling off the edge of a cliff.
From 2014 to 2018, the show aired on NBC. In 2019, it moved to National Geographic (or as fans call it, Nat Geo), where it aired until 2023. After four seasons on NBC, four seasons on Nat Geo, and two years in hibernation, Running Wild is coming back with a ninth season. And it will have another new home.
'Running Wild With Bear Grylls' Gets Season 9 On Fox
Varietyreports that Fox has ordered a new season of the long-running reality show. “Running Wild with Bear Grylls combines epic adventure with intimate, human storytelling, which pairs perfectly with Fox’s premium unscripted slate,” Fox's president, Michael Thorn, said of the show. “Bear has a rare ability to push people beyond their comfort zones in ways that are both visceral and emotionally revealing, and this new season raises the bar—from breathtaking locations to the remarkable guests joining him on these unforgettable journeys.”
It's not yet clear when the new season will air, but it will feature Matthew McConaughey, Uma Thurman, and Colman Domingo as celebrities as Grylls takes them and others through wilderness landscapes like Norwegian glaciers and Welsh mountains. One celebrity will even do a freefall from 11,000 feet.
Although it's been a while since the last season of Running Wild, Grylls hasn't been entirely gone from TV. In 2025, he starred in Netflix's Celebrity Bear Hunt — pun intended. 12 British celebrities — including Spice Girl Mel B — are sent to live in the Costa Rican jungle as Grylls hunts them like prey.
