FBI Releases Photo Of Potential Suspect In Savannah Guthrie’s Mom’s Disappearance
The FBI is hoping to solve the case involving the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy, by sharing four surveillance photos of a potential suspect on February 10.
The ransom note deadlines have already passed, so the release of four images — in what appears to be a masked man wearing gloves, a fleece jacket, and a backpack — is huge news. The person is standing on the front porch of the 84-year-old resident’s doorstep and appears to be tampering with her security camera.
Patel wrote on his X account, “Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”
He noted that “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.” Patel also encouraged anyone with further information to “contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit http://tips.fbi.gov.”
Naturally, social media users reacted with mixed emotions to the images on the 10th day of Nancy’s disappearance under Patel’s post.
“Good lord that must have been terrifying for the frail 84 year old woman. She was a vulnerable target,” wrote one account.
Another person criticized the ongoing investigation, “It took 10 days to get this crucial info out to the public? @FBI needs to be disbanded. That sheriff is the epitome of the entirety of the FBI.”
While some sleuths noted the mustache in the images, other people think it’s a woman in disguise as one account claimed, “Looks like female eyes, brows & lips.”
The Today show anchor also shared the photos on her Instagram page where she has been actively communicating with her followers in efforts to find her mom. “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” she wrote in the caption.
There were also two videos added to Patel’s thread on X which showed the potential suspect using flower stems to block the camera’s view while they disassembled the Nest camera. The other key identifier might be the jacket the person was wearing because it had a notable zipper in the front which led down to the gun holster in front of their belt buckle.
Nancy has been missing since February 1 from her Tucson, Arizona home.
