Kenya to introduce Baseball5 in secondary schools
The Baseball Federation of Kenya (BFK) announced that the Kenya Secondary Schools Policy has introduced Baseball5 into its sports curriculum and that the five-on-five version of Baseball/Softball will be part of the new competence-based education curriculum.
BFK President Titus Mutwiri is coordinating an educational plan for the school teachers across the country. He met the local press during a course in Kisii County. BFK chose the former Nyanza Province in southwestern Kenya as the pilot region.
"The sport will be taught and examined in Grade 11 in senior schools," Mutwiri said. "Physical education teachers must be ready for this."
Mutwiri conducted a workshop for 50 teachers, assisted by Baseball5 National Team coach Joel Wa-Ngicho and Kisii County BFK chairperson Kerubo Momanyi.
"We would like to see the sport spread in all parts of the country, and we are using Kisii as a hotspot," Mutwiri added. "This is part of a pilot project that we aim to spread to other parts of the country."
Baseball5 is meant to offer the Kenyan secondary school students the opportunity to try a different sport.
"Kenya is doing well at the continental and global levels," said Mutwiri on a final note. "The kids will be very excited to embrace Baseball5."
Kenya is No. 9 in the WBSC Baseball5 World Ranking and finished fifth in the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025.
