After facing some intense backlash, Odessa dropped out of the Sean Durkin-directed movie starring opposite her rumored boyfriend Drew Starkey and Cailee Spaeny.
In the movie based on Holly Brickley‘s novel, Odessa was cast to play Zoe, who is of Mexican heritage and is Jewish.

The love story is “set in the 2000s about two music-obsessed twentysomethings (to be played by Cailee Spaeny and Drew Starkey) navigating the messy realities of ambition, belonging, and adulthood over the course of an era-defining decade.”
Odessa explained her reasoning for dropping out after she got a lot of backlash online.
“I hadn’t read the book and should have paid more attention to all aspects of Zoe before accepting…and now that I know what I know??? F–k that! IM OUT,” she said.
It’s not the movie’s first recasting, either: Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler were meant to lead, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
