Nick Wright Gives Drake Maye Cruel New Nickname After Super Bowl Loss
Nick Wright took a bit too much pleasure in the New England Patriots losing Super Bowl LX to the Seattle Seahawks.
A vocal Kansas City Chiefs proponent throughout their success, Wright hasn’t always embraced New England’s climb back up the AFC hierarchy. Following Seattle’s 29-13 victory, the Fox Sports pundit spent Monday’s “First Things First” taunting colleague and Patriots fan Kevin Wildes.
At one point, Wright jokingly pitched a new nickname for Drake Maye. It’s a bit too long to catch on the way Drake “Drake Maye” Maye somehow did on the internet during the quarterback’s spectacular second season.
“I just have a suggestion for a new nickname,” Wright said before a banner unrolled behind him. “Drake ‘Drake Maybe he wasn’t actually as good as (Matthew) Stafford was, a product of the schedule and carried by his defense all postseason and we all need to slow down on his coronation a bit’ Maye.”
Maye didn’t play his finest game on Sunday. Although he registered 295 passing yards and two passing touchdowns after a strong fourth quarter, the 23-year-old took six sacks, lost a fumble and threw a pick-six among his two interceptions.
Maye finished the postseason with an 82.8 passer rating in four games against top-six defenses. The Patriots still won the AFC after allowing 26 combined points in three combined victories.
However, a rocky postseason shouldn’t detract from Maye’s superb regular season. Maye finished one first-place vote behind Stafford in the MVP race despite posting a better completion percentage and quarterback rating with the NFL’s most expected points added (EPA) by a huge margin.
