Ducati Recalls Panigale V4s and Streetfighter V4s Over Serious Rear Brake Failure Risk
In the manufacturing world, recalls are a fact of business, as a recent Ford issue that caused a fire risk shows. Unfortunately for Ducati and the company's customers, several models have a defect that could quickly become very dangerous. Those models are now the subject of a serious recall related to the potential for the sudden loss of rear brake function, which could create the risk of a crash.

On January 28, 2026, Ducati North America voluntarily issued a safety recall that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) officially posted on February 5. The recall notice on the NHTSA's website plainly explained the core risk that inspired the action. "A sudden loss of rear brake function increases the risk of a crash or injury." Importantly, no crashes or injuries linked to the issue have been reported so far. Instead, this measure is purely preventative.
The notice also described the exact defect that needs to be fixed. "The rear brake hose between the ABS control unit and rear brake caliper installed on these motorcycles may be susceptible to damage which may cause a sudden loss of rear brake function in the event of excessive overheating of the brake hose due to exhaust manifolds heat and, at the same time, the application of braking force that raises the pressure inside the brake hose itself."
List of Ducati Motorcycle Models Affected by This Recall:
- Panigale V4 2025-2026
- Panigale V4 S 2025-2026
- Streetfighter V4 2025-2026
- Streetfighter V4 S 2025-2026
For Ducati motorcycle owners who are concerned their bike could be affected by this (or any other) recall, they are advised to search for their VIN on the NHTSA's lookup portal.

As a part of its recall notice, Ducati North America declared it will notify dealerships and owners directly about the action. Once contacted, owners can take their motorcycles to any authorized dealer for a free replacement of the thermal shield that protects the brake hose.
Additionally, the notice stated that owners who previously replaced the part could potentially receive money for their expenses on a case-by-case basis. These decisions will be made based on their standard pre-notification reimbursement policy filed with NHTSA.
