8 Muslim Nations Condemn Israeli Actions in West Bank
Foreign ministers from eight Muslim-majority nations jointly condemn Israeli actions in the West Bank, warning settlement expansion risks escalating regional tensions further.
Foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, and the UAE described Israeli measures in the West Bank as illegal in a joint statement.
The ministers said Israeli policies aim to accelerate annexation efforts and expand settlements, stressing that sovereignty over Palestinian territories cannot legally be imposed.
They warned continued policies could increase violence and instability across the region, urging respect for international law and protection of Palestinian civilian rights.
The statement followed Israeli security cabinet approval of steps easing land purchases by settlers and granting authorities expanded powers in dealing with Palestinians in the territory.
More than 140 United Nations member states recognize Palestine, while the UN General Assembly granted Palestine non-member observer state status in November 2012.
Settlement expansion and control measures in the West Bank remain among the most disputed issues in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ongoing peace efforts.
Diplomats say renewed international engagement will be necessary to prevent further escalation and keep prospects for a negotiated two-state solution alive.
