Tottenham predicted XI vs Newcastle as Djed Spence returns and Mathys Tel starts
Tottenham Hotspur’s attention quickly turns back to Premier League duties, with little time to dwell on their latest setback as another demanding test looms against Newcastle United. We have now attempted to predict how Thomas Frank could line up against Eddie Howe’s men.
Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Tuesday after yet another defeat in the league against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Thomas Frank’s men looked to cause Michael Carrick’s side problems but were reduced to ten men early in the first half following Cristian Romero’s sending off.
Spurs will now have to move on quickly from that defeat, with Newcastle United next up three days later.
Tottenham still have a few injuries to contend with following Destiny Udogie’s hamstring knock against United, but there have been boosts, with Djed Spence returning.
With that in mind, we have now attempted to predict how Thomas Frank could set his United side up.
Tottenham predicted XI vs Newcastle United
Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: The Tottenham number one could barely do anything about the two goals United scored last time out and was forced into a few more saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
Right-back – Archie Gray: With Pedro Porro still out and not expected to return until February 22, Gray should continue to fill in at full-back.
Centre-back – Radu Dragusin: Cristian Romero’s four-game ban should leave Dragusin pretty much nailed on in the coming weeks, and we expect him to start here.
Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: Tottenham will be relying on him as the senior centre-back in the next few weeks, especially with Danso also sidelined.
Left-back – Djed Spence: The full-back has only just returned from the sidelines and should get straight back into the side following Udogie’s latest hamstring problem.
Pivot midfielder – Joao Palhinha: The Portuguese remains vital for Tottenham in this injury crisis, given his ability to fill in at centre-back, but we expect him to start in midfield.
Pivot midfielder – Conor Gallagher: The Englishman seems to be finding some rhythm now in a Tottenham shirt, and we expect him to continue in the middle of the park.
Attacking midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr: The Senegalese featured against United and tried to carry Spurs up the pitch whenever he could. We expect a similar role here, especially with Tottenham short of number ten options.
Right winger – Wilson Odobert: The winger did not get 45 minutes under his belt last time out, as he was sacrificed for Dragusin after Romero’s sending off and, as a result, we expect he will start here.
Striker – Dominic Solanke: The forward failed to carry his goalscoring run against United, and Frank will be hoping he finds his shooting boots again.
Left winger – Mathys Tel: Simons has been one of the players to feature in several consecutive matches following the injuries that hit the Tottenham forward line, but we expect Tel to come in for him on Tuesday.
