'Shot Across the Bow': Turning Point, Bad Bunny Halftime Show Ratings Show Clear Winner
In the days leading up to Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, Turning Point USA, a conservative group, touted its halftime show alternative to Bad Bunny's performance.
“The All-American Halftime Show is an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family, and freedom,” Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said of the halftime show.
“We set out to provide an entertainment option that will be fun, excellent, and exciting for the entire family while millions are gathered together for the big game. These performers will deliver exactly that, and we can’t wait to watch the incredible show they’re about to put on. We know millions around the country will be watching too.”
Ratings Revealed for Turning Point USA Halftime Show
During a media appearance on Sunday night, Kolvet again touted the conservative group's halftime show, suggesting it received over 20 million views as of Sunday night.
“And 20 million, very minimum, I think the number’s going to go higher, 40 maybe even 50 in the next 24 hours. And so I can tell you this is a shot across the bow, people are paying attention, and we are really excited to see what we can pull off and go to do it for the country, and this is a massive success, and we were grateful to do it,” he said.
The New York Times took a closer look, revealing the show drew 6.1 million concurrent viewers on its YouTube channel Sunday night after running into a problem with streaming rights on X.
Bad Bunny Expected to Set New Record
While Turning Point USA raved about its halftime show, early indications suggest it was still no match for Bad Bunny's halftime performance, which is expected to set a record with more than 135 million viewers - breaking Kendrick Lamar's record of 133.5 million.
Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, received high marks from Jason Jones of The Athletic, who gave the show an A grade.
"I loved the multiple flags of Latin countries and Bad Bunny’s shouting out those countries. He kept the show authentic and made it obvious this was a show from Latin America for the world to enjoy," he wrote. The special effects, such as Bad Bunny’s going through the roof of the house or climbing the telephone pole, were cool and fit well with the video montage shown in the stadium. A wedding at the Super Bowl is next level, too. Hard to top that."
Bad Bunny was the clear winner Sunday night.
