MCP looted billions from Malawians, Says Kabwila
….Urges Supporters to Defend Them
Former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila has admitted that some senior figures in the party stole billions of kwacha from Malawians during the party’s time in government.
Kabwila made the remarks while addressing MCP supporters at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe, where she acknowledged that public resources meant for poor Malawians were looted by party leaders.
However, Kabwila went on to instruct party loyalists not to expose those involved in the alleged looting, instead urging MCP supporters—particularly those active on social media—to continue defending the accused individuals.
She said party unity must be protected, despite what she described as wrongdoing by some party “gurus.”
Kabwila’s remarks have since sparked debate on social media, with critics accusing the MCP of double standards on corruption, while supporters argue her comments were taken out of context.
The MCP leadership has not yet issued an official statement clarifying Kabwila’s remarks.
