Drake Maye Cracks Slight Joke After Patriots’ Super Bowl Loss
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye fought back tears throughout the majority of his postgame press conference in the immediate aftermath of his club’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.
It’s safe to say there was one idea that made him feel better, though…
“I’d like to go back to the beginning and re-do it,” Maye said with a smile, per video provided by CLNS Media. “… I’d like to have the fumble, or the (interception) return for the touchdown — there’s two plays in the first half where I feel like I could have made a better throw, or made a better decision. It’s really just — it comes down to who makes the plays and who doesn’t.”
Maye was admittedly atrocious throughout large stretches of the game, though he was sacked six times — with the number being much closer to seven considering he was hit and had the ball knocked loose and directly into the arms of Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu — and ultimately failed to make any changes that could have resulted in an easier time in the pocket. If that’s on anyone, it’s the coaching staff and not the sophomore signal-caller.
Maye took the blame for the loss, however — while sharing praise for nearly everyone around him.
The Patriots certainly agree with the sentiment about restarting the what is one of the most disappointing results in franchise history, but what they can live with is knowing that they have the right man leading their franchise for years to come.
