Drake Maye's Parents & Brothers: Dad Mark & Mom Aimee Were Athletes
Both of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's parents were athletes in their own right.
In addition, two of Maye's brothers, Luke and Cole, played NCAA basketball and baseball. According to the Charlottesville Observer, in a 2017 profile on the family, the four brothers have "benefited from a remarkably athletic bloodline on both sides of the family, starting with two grandfathers who were heavily involved in sports." The third brother, Beau Maye, played at UNC and is a high school basketball coach, according to his Instagram page. He has frequently posted photos showing his brothers, including Drake.
Their parents, father Mark Maye and mother Aimee Maye, also enjoyed athletic careers.
“We’re blessed to get to watch Drake play in all these big games,” Beau told UNC. “What’s really cool is that we’re still doing the same old stuff. He plays those games in front of millions, and we go back to the house, and it’s right back to when we were 9 or 10 years old, hanging out. That’s the stuff that doesn’t change.”
Mark Maye, Drake Maye's Father, Was Also a Starting Quarterback
Drake's dad, Mark Maye, was a starting quarterback himself, the Observer newspaper reported, for North Carolina in the mid-1980s. He was a "three-sport star" in high school.
Drake's father didn't make it to the NFL because of injuries, the Observer added. Mark Maye "remains one of the most accomplished high school football players to ever come out of Charlotte," The News & Observer wrote.
According to People, Mark met Aimee "when he returned to UNC as an assistant and coached her Powder Puff game."
Aimee Maye, Drake Maye's Mother, Was a 'Star Basketball Player'
The Observer noted that Aimee Maye, Drake's mom, was a "star basketball player" and her county's girls' player of the year in high school, although she didn't play college sports.
"The Mayes are sort of like North Carolina’s version of the Gronkowski brothers, if you take out the beer kegs and replace them with sweet tea," The Observer added.
Drake Maye told UNC of his family's support: "My parents come to every game, so they’re always here. And my three brothers are here, which is pretty cool. It’s just special sharing these moments with them and going home and probably playing ping-pong until 1:30 a.m. or something. Having them in the house is cool, three of my best friends. And obviously Ann Michael, so I can’t forget about her.”
Drake Maye's 3 Brothers, Cole, Luke & Beau Maye, Were Also Good Athletes
According to the News & Observer, Cole Maye "was part of a national championship baseball team at Florida in 2017."
Luke Maye, "the tallest of his brothers, made the shot of all shots in Memphis in 2017 to send the Tar Heels to the Final Four, and toward another national championship," the newspaper added. What is he doing now? UNC explained, "UNC basketball legend Luke is playing in Japan."
"When Luke made his debut for the Kobe Storks in Japan and averaged 24 points and 13.5 rebounds in his first two games, Drake immediately fired off a text recommending some work on his free throws (67%)," UNC added.
What of the final brother, Beau Maye? His athletic abilities were just as strong, but he had knee injuries, according to the News & Observer.According to UNC, he had nine knee surgeries.
"It’s just kind of how our family is; we always expect the best, and perfection,” Luke said in that profile of the family. Luke posted a photo of Drake and Ann Michael Maye's wedding to his Instagram page.
Beau has expressed pride over his brother on Instagram, writing, "My guy, my biggest opp, my best friend, just got drafted. Hard to find the words…but golly, God is Good."
