His parents are named Haneef and Cassondra Shaheed, and they are both college track & field athletes!
“We thought it was interesting that he immediately wanted to run everywhere,” Haneef previously said about his athletic nature. “And as two track athletes, we thought, ‘OK, well, you know, the genetics are there for sure.’”
“From the time he was 3 to 4 years old, he wanted to play football,” Haneef previously told Mile Split. “He might have set records in the 100, 200 and 400 and he still would have chosen football. He was a Pac-12 track athlete, but he wanted to play football, so he went to Weber State.”
He was raised in San Diego, and ended up playing college football with Weber State Wildcats. He did have the opportunity to attend University of Southern California on a track scholarship, but he ended up choosing to pursue football. He joined the NFL in 2022 as a member of the New Orleans Saints before heading to the Seahawks.
He has two sisters as well who are track stars: Amirah runs for Oregon State University and Aysha is a grad student at Texas A&M, where she’s also an athlete.
