Carrick refuses to confirm whether Man United star with 'first-class' attitude will start vs Tottenham
Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko delivered a dramatic stoppage-time winner to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham last weekend.
Introduced from the bench in the 74th minute, Sesko made an instant impact by rattling the woodwork with his very first touch.
Moments later, the striker crowned his cameo by smashing home the winner in the 94th minute, following a sublime assist from Bruno Fernandes.
United caretaker head coach Michael Carrick was quick to heap praise on Sesko during his press conference ahead of today’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “I couldn’t have been happier for Ben the other day. I spoke about it after the game. It was a huge moment for him, he totally deserves it for all those reasons and the work he’s been putting in, the desire he’s got to be the best version he can be.”
Carrick was then pressed on whether Sesko could be rewarded with a place in the starting XI.
The former England international said: “He’s been really impressive since I’ve been here. There’s a lot more to come from Ben, I’m sure, whether that’s this week, next week or the week after.
“That’s just part of being in this squad and growing together. Certainly, picking the team is the hardest part, but the boys have been fantastic and not given me any issues at all.”
Sesko poised to start on bench vs Spurs
The 22-year-old has quietly established himself as one of the most hardworking players at Old Trafford.
Club legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that insiders have told him Sesko’s attitude in training has been nothing short of first-class.
Ferdinand also claimed the striker was among the earliest to arrive at Carrington and one of the last to leave.
Sesko has been unfairly targeted by pundits despite enjoying a steady debut season in Manchester.
He has already contributed five goals and one assist in 19 Premier League appearances.
Many also overlook the fact that Sesko is still only 22 and is a coming from the Bundesliga, a league widely considered less intense than the Premier League.
Sesko is expected to be named on the bench again today, but Carrick will be hoping his striker can deliver another game-changing impact off the bench in the second half.
