Five Quick Things: The Wrath of the Savages

Welcome to this, your weekend edition of the 5QT, brought to you in part by excessive outrage and also by excessive wine.

No, I will not explain.

Anyhoo, on with the show…

1. Missives From Gov. Go-F**k-Yourself

An interesting legal drama is brewing due to the state of Louisiana’s efforts to stamp out chemical abortions through the off-label use of mifepristone and other abortion drugs. The state has attempted to charge out-of-state doctors who are offering themselves as prescription-by-mail operators for those drugs in violation of a new Louisiana law making such prescriptions illegal (I’m oversimplifying it a bit because I’m racing toward the juicy stuff), and asking that those other states extradite the violators to stand trial in the Bayou State. (RELATED: ‘Dr. Maggie,’ Notorious Abortionist)

That effort, made by Louisiana’s Attorney General Liz Murrill, didn’t get very far when she went after a doctor in New York. But that state’s reaction was a bit less performative than the one California Gov. Gavin Newsom threw back at Murrill this week when Louisiana demanded the extradition of a California doctor doling out abortion pills like a Pez dispenser. This was Newsom’s rather unfriendly reaction:

The effort to prosecute out-of-state doctors for prescribing substances that are illegal neither in the state in which they reside nor in federal law is admittedly a bit of a reach. And the reality of a state claiming that the long arm of its law should extend even into hostile territory isn’t altogether a positive one — I can easily envision a scenario whereby a state like California might criminalize political satire of various kinds, for example, and then seek to prosecute non-Californians for perceived transgressions simply because their offerings might be consumed by Californians over the internet.

In that scenario, I would want Louisiana’s governor, Jeff Landry, to take a similar stance against California’s efforts to extradite me and drag me in front of a kangaroo court full of Guatemalans or public employee union members or Women’s Studies faculty — or whoever is left in California.

I’m not sure I’d require Landry to post “Go F[*]ck Yourself” on X on my behalf, though.

There’s a certain element of fake masculinity — beta-male bravado, for certain — inherent in Newsom telling a female attorney general to do the anatomically impossible. Would he say that to Landry or to Greg Abbott or to Ron DeSantis? Perhaps.

Murrill’s response was a bit more genteel…

And she picked up a bit of a defense team among Louisiana’s politicos and others…

We’ll see if this escalates. Newsom is looking for a fight because his camp has perceived that mean-girl spirit and its performative manifestations are the political currency of today’s Democrat Party, and so engaging in verbal pugilism with high-profile red-state conservatives is how he can burnish his street cred for 2028. (RELATED: Gavin Newsom’s New Low)

Murrill has her own political ambitions. Some think she’s positioning herself for a run at governor of Louisiana in 2031 after Landry is termed out. So it’s in her interest to keep this fight moving as well. It remains to be seen whether she’d go beyond those lawsuits and into a true war footing against all things California.

It should be recognized, of course, that two of Murrill’s political allies are Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise — the two most prominent members of Congress. One wonders if Newsom realizes how much trouble an all-out political war with the folks in Louisiana’s backwaters could make for him and his pals.

Worth watching.

2. The Prophet Muhammad and Immigration, in the Words of New York’s New Prophet

You probably saw this. Everybody has by now.

I said it at X, and I also said it in the first segment of The Spectacle Podcast this week: Zohran Mamdani is a New Yorker but not an American, and this is a status it wasn’t possible to hold not long ago. (RELATED: The Spectacle Ep. 322: Commie Trouble: King Mamdani’s Kingdom Rubbled in Snow)

Mamdani might hold American citizenship, though he shouldn’t, as he clearly lied on his naturalization forms about the ideologies he adheres to. But his cultural, economic, and political beliefs can only be described as anti-American in every way that matters.

That said, he’s certainly a New Yorker. The New Yorkers obviously think so; they made him mayor of the place. And the Epstein files, which prove that Mamdani’s mother was very well connected not just to Jeffrey Epstein but the mob of Big Apple sophisticates Epstein ran with, make it obvious that Zohran Mamdani is no outsider to the in-crowd in that city.

And it used to be that the things Mamdani is talking about in that clip — essentially that bringing in large numbers of people from diverse backgrounds added to a city’s dynamism — were understood to have a modicum of truth to them. New York offered a window into that truth, it’s true.

Except this was when New York was still very much an American city. And that diversity and cultural dynamism fit within the box of an American culture and heritage that New York helped to shape, but was still governed by.

It wasn’t long ago that, after the Twin Towers were brought down by people who believed a lot of the same things Mamdani believes, America rallied behind New York because New Yorkers still fundamentally adhered to the same worldview the rest of the country does.

Nobody really thinks that’s true anymore. It started to not be true when Bill de Blasio served two terms as New York’s mayor, and now, under Mamdani, it’s unquestionably false.

It’s mind-blowing that a generation after 9/11, this would be the man ruling New York, but that’s the reality. And in that sense, it is very possible to be a New Yorker and not an American.

3. The Chinese Cultural Revolution Comes to Corporate Yoga

Who are the worst people in America? This is beginning to stand out as an important question. Certainly, the metropolitan elite being outed in the latest batch of dispatches from the Epstein files — the folks whose perversions and appetites the public have suspected but not quite known until now and have only accentuated their deliberate failure to preserve and advance the institutions they control — are one class of nominee.

The criminal class of barbarians destroying the low-end areas of our cities, in concert with the crooked machine pols ruling from City Hall, is another group.

But increasingly the leading villains in America are these people…

You’ve heard of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and you’ve probably heard of a “struggle session.” You might not have a good picture in your head of what one looks like. But this is a somewhat polite approximation.

Typically, the Chinese version involves a battering about the head and shoulders, a duncecap inscribed with very derogatory descriptions of the victim, and, in its angrier iterations, bloody murder for the benefit of the crowd. You don’t quite get that in Minnesota, yet, but the offense against public peace is nonetheless present in this example.

The two poor young women being put through that verbal assault aren’t corporate spokespeople. Someone put an anti-ICE sign in the window of that CorePower Yoga location, and the corporate suits decided to take it down for the express purpose of trying to avoid entanglements with politics.

And a room full of angry Karens, including an utterly worthless TikTok influencer (or something) serving as the bandleader and showrunner, was what they endured for their trouble.

Bored, safe white women with emotional-instability issues and a warped sense of consequences are becoming a threat to civilization.

Bored, safe white women with emotional-instability issues and a warped sense of consequences are becoming a threat to civilization. That’s a funny line for those who agree with it, and a triggering one for those who don’t, but it’s a serious assessment. (RELATED: Feminism, the Nose-Ring Theory, and Our Potential Extinction)

I’ve said this before, but we put up with behavior like this from women when, if it were perpetrated by men against men, it would be sorted out kinetically for one historical reason. Chivalry. Western civilization was built partly upon the idea that honorable men would bleed, if necessary, to protect and secure the deserving females in their midst against villainy. But chivalry was built as a two-way street — it was not for all women to benefit from, but for ladies specifically. And though it grew to be chivalrous to assume a woman was a lady, once that assumption was proven false, all bets were off. (RELATED: Conservative Success Is Tied to Protecting Women and Emboldening Men)

That morphed into the protection of all women from violence, and not unhappily so. It’s a civilizational advance that we don’t allow men to go around bullying females simply because they’re bigger and stronger. Except now that advance is being abused by a new class of villains who are actively weaponizing the cultural institutions and sacraments of Western civilization against it. (RELATED: How Feminism Has Escaped Public Scrutiny)

You can’t talk to someone the way these women were talking to those two poor CorePower employees, who have zero executive or decision-making function at that company, the way these harpies did and not expect there would be consequences. Do that in some other venue, and you’ll get a split lip for your trouble when the manager gets called in and he decides to take out the trash.

After I suffered through this video, I needed a palate cleanser, so I went for one of my favorite eye candy clips…

That’s a joke, but it’s true that one feature of civil society is that its members are capable of regulating their surroundings without requiring the government to do it.

I can’t resist it. I’ve got to give you my old pal Spuds McConnell’s all-time best…

Now — Minnesota leftists will argue that civil society regulating itself is what’s happening in that CorePower video. Except they’re wrong — or perhaps more accurately, they’re doing it wrong. Because a properly-regulated civil society seeks truth and justice in its retribution. It doesn’t seek to victimize anyone but the victimizers. The biker gang getting pummeled in that scene from A Bronx Tale was known for serial vandalism and fighting at all the neighborhood bars, and obviously, the police weren’t effective in putting a stop to it. So the Mafia did. And while it was nasty and brutish, it also served something of a just purpose.

But the CorePower harpies only made more victims.

This is increasingly true of the Left’s Useful Idiot protest mobs.

And what’s going to happen — it’s already started here and there — is that this kind of behavior will break down what’s left of our social compact, and there will be “security personnel” called in against the protesters and other disorderly individuals when they abuse innocent people on private property.

And now youse can’t leave. Stay out of the Woolworths.

It would do us a whole lot of good if we, as a society, started looking down on protesters as terrible human beings. Generally, that’s an accurate portrayal. There are scant few just causes which can be furthered by organized protests anymore, and given the fragile state of our community relationships across the country, the last thing we need are unstable radicals forcing themselves on us as the self-appointed conscience of our streets.

4. What Luigi Wrought

You get this when half the country lionizes a psychotic loser for slaughtering a health insurance company executive on a street, and no social blowback is visited on them. The copycats come out. Thank God this one wasn’t as successful as Luigi Mangione was.

His name is Colin Demarco and he is 26-years-old. Last August, Demarco left his home in Rockville, Maryland and made his way to the Virginia home of Trump OMB Director Russell Vought. Authorities believe he was carrying a gun. Two weeks ago he was arrested and now he’s been charged him with attempted murder.

According to the criminal complaint, which was drafted by an Arlington County police officer, Demarco was captured on a Ring doorbell camera at the front door of Vought’s Arlington home on Aug. 10 wearing gloves, a backpack, sunglasses and a surgical mask.

He was also seen looking through Vought’s mailbox, and he approached a neighbor to ask if anyone was home. The neighbor told investigators that Demarco appeared to have a gun tucked under his shirt…

Eventually, he said that he went to Vought’s home because he wanted to confront him about Project 2025. He denied having a gun or any intent to harm anyone, however. He also told agents that the November 2024 election was “the lowest point in his life” and he feared “impending war and a fascist takeover,” the complaint says.

Demarco identified himself as a fan of Luigi Mangione. When authorities searched his ICloud account they found notes about his weapons and a “Body Disposal Guide.” He also expressed an interest in killing president Trump.

If Russ Vought had been murdered by this maniac, it would have been (1) a major national disaster, for sure, but (2) the direct result of the Left’s non-stop apocalyptic harangues about Project 2025. Would there have been consequences to that then?

No. Of course not.

So the beat goes on.

And finally…

5. Apparently, You Can Say the N-Word After All

Most white people will find their lives utterly destroyed — career implosion, social ostracism, canceling in every way — at the utterance of a certain slur word historically directed at black people.

Quoting rap lyrics with that word is sufficient to commit social suicide if one is recorded doing so. Country singer Morgan Wallen was on the way to full erasure because, in his cups, drinking with friends in a bar, he let the word out as part of a joking reference to one of his friends, and a bystander recorded it and sold it to TMZ. Wallen’s fans saved him by downloading every track of his that they could in response to the official opprobrium, in what’s best described as a popular revolt against cancel culture.

But it seems that the word “n*gger” is back in fashion, and not just among the black community. You can, in fact, maliciously call a black man a n*gger without consequence if you’re a white person.

That seems delusional to say, and I wouldn’t say it. Except my eyes are not deceiving me and it ain’t luck if you can do it twice…

And…

Ace of Spades noted that white racist Krystal Ball went in a slightly different direction but with the same baseline bigotry…

Remember that five minutes ago they’d run around screaming about how the Republicans and Democrats switched sides during the Civil Rights Era, and because of that, it’s not the Democrats who are the racists? Good times.

We’ve not yet descended into wholesale violence and chaos as a society. But the signs that those are coming are all around us. The savages are out, and they’re becoming bolder, and they are full of wrath.
