One of the ‘Top TV Shows of All Time’ Is Leaving Netflix Globally Soon
For observers, it can seem like a no-brainer that Netflix Original shows should never leave the streaming service. However, the unfortunate truth is that simply isn't the case as more than 100 of them have been announced to be leaving the streaming service in 2026.
Sadly, a beloved show that was partially produced as a Netflix Original is an example of that since it is set to leave the platform in a matter of weeks. That is especially disappointing since the series has been roundly celebrated as one of the best shows ever produced.
Arrested Development Is Set to Leave Netflix on March 15, 2026
On February 4, 2026, What's On Netflix reported that Arrested Development is set to leave Netflix globally on March 15, 2026. The only way that will change is if Netflix and Disney strike a new licensing deal before then, but since there hasn't been any indication that is planned, the exit is very likely to happen. There is still a little bit of hope since this isn't the first time the show was set to be removed from the streaming service, as the same outlet detailed.
Back in February 2023, Netflix users began being notified that Arrested Development was leaving the streaming service. However, that exit was averted when a last-minute deal was struck to keep the beloved sitcom as part of the media library for another three years. That time frame will end in mid-March 2026. The 2023 agreement was revealed publicly only days before the series was originally going to exit. That is why Netflix users can choose to keep hope alive until the series is actually gone.
Arrested Development's first three seasons aired on Fox between November 2, 2003, and February 10, 2006. Years later, Netflix revived the series. Season 4 premiered on May 26, 2013, followed by the first half of the fifth season on May 29, 2018, and Part 2 on March 15, 2019. Netflix also released a re-edited version of the show's fourth season called "Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences" on May 3, 2018.
Arrested Development: Ranked Among the Greatest Shows/Sitcoms Ever
When Arrested Development was airing on Fox, the show won a slew of awards, including at the Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes, and more. Even years after the sitcom's last episode premiered for the first time, the accolades have kept coming. In fact, it could be argued that the series has received its most prestigious honors since then, despite the lack of trophies.
In May 2021, Rolling Stone published its list of the 100 Best Sitcoms of All Time and named Arrested Development as #15. When IGN released its list of the Top 100 TV Shows of All Time in March 2024, the outlet put Arrested Development in the #14 slot. Additionally, Rotten Tomatoes has a ranking of the 200 Best Comedy Series of All Time, and it has placed Arrested Development in the #19 position.
