Tottenham include 20% sell-on clause and £871k kicker in latest transfer deal
Alasdair Gold has revealed a key detail which Tottenham Hotspur have included in their deal to sell Alejo Veliz to Bahia.
Tottenham’s attempts to sell Veliz to Bahia in January collapsed as the club was unable to terminate the striker’s loan spell with Rosario Central prematurely.
This was reportedly because the Spurs striker was keen to see out the rest of his loan spell in Argentina after a strong showing on his return to Rosario.
However, a deal has now been agreed, which will see Veliz move to the Brazilian club in the summer.
Tottenham will benefit from Alejo Veliz’s future move
It was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday afternoon that Tottenham had agreed a deal worth €9m (£7.8m) plus add-ons for Veliz with Bahia.
The striker is expected to have his medical with his new club in June before completing the move.
Now, Alasdair Gold has confirmed that, along with the transfer fee and £871k in add-ons, the Lilywhites have also inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause for the striker.
Gold wrote on X: “Spurs have agreed a deal with Bahia to sell Alejo Veliz after his current loan at Rosario Central, but nothing is signed yet. Understand it will be a £7.8m (9m euros) deal with £871k in add-ons (1m euros) plus a 20% sell-on clause.”
Only a verbal agreement has been reached regarding Veliz’s move so far
Romano specified that Tottenham had ‘verbally agreed’ a deal with Bahia director Cadu Santoro today, while Gold has also mentioned that ‘nothing has been signed so far’.
That suggests that this deal is not 100 per cent certain yet, as there is always the risk that either party could change their mind before the documents are signed.
However, there is no doubt that adding a sell-on clause is a smart move by Spurs. It is a clear indication that the club rate the young striker and potentially expects him to make another move to Europe in the future after he develops into a finished product.
