Patriots’ Drake Maye Wins Quarterback Award Over Matthew Stafford
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye finished as the MVP Award runner up to Drake Maye, but he did manage to win one award.
Maye was named the FedEx Air Player of the Year on Thursday night. The award isvoted on by fans, and Maye beat out Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams.
Maye had a phenomenal year for the Patriots. He was named Second-Team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season. He led the league in completion percentage, passer rating and quarterback rating.
He had 4,394 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns. He threw just eight interceptions in 492 pass attempts. He proved he is one of the best players in the league, even though he fell short of winning MVP.
FedEx also awarded one running back and one pass catcher with an award. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Christian McCaffrey were the other FedEx Award winners.
Maye will not look to show out one final time this season against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Seahawks are favorites in the game, but the Patriots have become accustomed to being doubted.
Maye has proven he is capable of playing against elite defenses, and the Seahawks will have their hands full against the Patriots’ offense.
