Celeb Super Bowl sightings: Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce’s funky sweater, more
They’re here!
The headliners, sports stars, A-list personalities and, of course, the influencers have begun to descend on the Bay Area for Super Bowl LX. Sure, they’ve come to watch America’s biggest, most-watched sporting event of the year, an epic battle between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
But these celebrities have also come to party with other famous, wealthy and attractive people. Maybe they also need to promote a new album, business venture or sponcon, but the Super Bowl also offers them the chance to be seen as important enough in the world to rate admission to the game and to its most glamorous events.
Here’s a roundup of who’s been seen so far and who has yet to arrive:
• After landing in San Jose on Monday, some New England Patriots players immediately sought out something to eat, hitting an unspecified In-N-Out restaurant in the area to perhaps grab one of the fast-food chain’s famous burgers — maybe a double-double or one cooked animal style. A video posted to Instagram by TNT sports showed quarterback Drake Maye, running back TreVeyon Henderson and others walking through the restaurant and shaking hands with friends.
• Jason Kelce stopped in at Love on Haight, the famed tie-dye-loving, Grateful Dead-inspired clothing store in the Haight-Ashbury to pick up a tie-dye velvet coat to wear to the party in San Francisco Wednesday night that he co-hosted with his brother, Travis Kelce, for their “New Heights” podcast, the store revealed on Instagram Stories. For the party at the Thriller Country Club, South of Market, the Philadelphia Eagles player was shirtless underneath his coat, while his brother kept his outfit for the night slightly more conservative, if no less funky: a cardigan in bright red-and-white Kansas City Chiefs colors. And, no, it doesn’t look like Travis’ famous fiancee, Taylor Swift, was at the party. But an observant attendee noticed that her significance in Travis’ life was at the party: a photo of Swift’s 2017 Super Saturday Night pre-Super Bowl concert was on display.
• Bad Bunny has been photographed at Levi’s Stadium this past week, rehearsing for his Halftime Show, getting fitted for his costumes, sitting on a horse and trying out a jet pack that may let him take flight on stage. The superstar Grammy winner also appeared at a press conference Thursday, with pre-game performers Coco Jones, Brandi Carlisle and Charlie Puth. Bad Bunny spoke in English in addition to his native Spanish but wouldn’t preview many details of his show and whether it will include any surprise guests, such as Cardi B, who is performing at the ultra-exclusive Fanatics Party the day before.
• And did Bad Bunny decide to do a coffee run at Con Azucar Cafe in downtown San Jose sometime this week? “Not saying Bad Bunny came to our coffee shop during Super Bowl week…’ the East Santa Clara Street shop posted on Facebook. OK, but a closer look at the photos show that they were A.I. Still, it seems like the shop had fun with the idea of him visiting and noted, “He has excellent taste.”
• Martha Stewart was expected to make an appearance at the Bay Area Host Committee’s San Francisco Fan Zone, a music, food and cultural event Yerba Buena Gardens, on Thursday. She also visited SiriusXM on “Radio Row” in San Francisco.
• Rob Lowe has been telling his fans on Instagram that he will be at the Super Bowl, “on the ground,” hosting a show for On Location, a hospitality company that provides travel packages to the Super Bowl and access to various events.
• Controversial Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has been stopping in at San Francisco pizza restaurants in the Mission (The Pizza Shop and the Pink Onion) to offer his “One Bite Pizza Reviews” on Instagram and to do some sponcon for Draft Kings, the online gambling company.
• It remains to be seen whether certain A-listers will make a return to the Super Bowl this year, including Swift, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Leonardo DiCaprio. But since Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is producing the Halftime Show, expect him — and maybe Beyonce — to make an appearance.
•Stars scheduled to perform or to otherwise show up at official invents include Jon Hamm, Chris Pratt, Jon Bon Jovi, Isaiah Mustaf, Green Day, Benson Boone, Post Malone, Sting, Kehlani and The Killers. Shaquille O’Neill’s Funhouse party at the Cow Palace Friday night is expected to include guests like Miles Teller, Kristi Yamaguchi, T-Pain, Bay Area music legends E-40 and Too $hort, along with some influencers and reality TV stars.
