Tottenham and Man United combined XI sees Spurs dominate with Dom Solanke, Xavi Simons and more - opinion

Tottenham and Man United have played out some thrilling games in recent years, but which team has the best players?

Spurs travel to Old Trafford this weekend, and while we’re keen to watch even if the odds are certainly in the Red Devils’ favour for this game.

Thomas Frank has a great team, on paper, but with injuries hitting the Lilywhites hard and United being in good form, we may well leave Manchester empty handed this weekend.

Still, if we look at it hypothetically, in an ideal world where no on is injured, who would make the combined Tottenham and Man United XI?

Who makes the Tottenham and Man United combined XI?

Guglielmo Vicario

This is a really tough one, and to be fair to him, Senne Lammens is looking really good in the United goal this season. However, I’ve just not quite seen enough to put him above Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian may be shaky at times, but he’s still an excellent shot stopper.

Pedro Porro

Again, quite a tricky toss-up this one, but Pedro Porro just about edges both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui based purely on consistency. The Man United pair are in and out of the team and have never quite been able to become the first-choice right-back, while Porro is the undisputed choice at Spurs. The Spaniard is usually dependable in defensive zones, and is highly creative in attack too.

Cristian Romero

Spurs skipper Cristian Romero has proven time and time again that he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League. This season, he’s even added goals to his game as well as displaying his leadership skills. On the ball, he’s calm and composed. Off it, he’s full of passion and fire. He’s the kind of player every side needs.

Harry Maguire

Micky van de Ven is arguably better than Harry Maguire on a technical level, but there’s just something about the United ace that makes him a truly special player. He has the ability to pop up when his team need him the most, he always puts his body on the line, and he’s got a great footballing IQ. Call me crazy, but I’d take Maguire all day.

Patrick Dorgu

Destiny Udogie’s injury issues have held him back severely over the last two years. Yes, I know we’re not taking injuries into account, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that Udogie has failed to put together a consistent run in the Spurs team while Patrick Dorgu has excelled at United. It’s a close call, but Dorgu’s current form gives him the edge.

Joao Palhinha

If Casemiro was just a little bit sharper and quicker, this would be a closer contest, but Joao Palhinha does all the dirty work that the Brazilian can, while also having far more athleticism. It might not be glamorous work, but Palhinha gets stuck in, breaks up opposition attacks, and helps Spurs turnover possession time and time again.

Bruno Fernandes

We’re going for a fairly attacking midfield trio here, simply because there are players you just cannot leave out. Bruno Fernandes is arguably one of, if not the best player in this combined XI. The Man United captain has been so productive in terms of goals and assists over the last few years, and the Red Devils would be absolutely lost without him.

Xavi Simons

We are finally starting to see the immense potential Xavi Simons has, with his latest performances producing goals, assists and an encouraging amount of passion shining through, too. The young playmaker is so slick and intelligent; when he’s at his creative best, he’s unplayable.

Bryan Mbeumo

Spurs were keen on signing Bryan Mbeumo in the summer, and judging by how he’s settled in at United, we probably should have pushed a little harder. He’s already got nine goals this season, and that puts him ahead of his counterpart at Tottenham, Mohammed Kudus.

Dominic Solanke

The way that Dominic Solanke has settled back into the team and started scoring goals since returning from injury tells us all we need to know about his quality. He’s the kind of striker who not only bags goals, but works so hard for the team, be it pressing from the front or holding up the ball for his teammates.

Matheus Cunha

Another successful summer signing for Man United, Matheus Cunha took some time to get going but has hit the ground running now. He’s now got six goals and two assists for United, including that all-important strike against Arsenal. Cunha looks like a big-gameplayer, and is certainly more well-rounded than the likes of Mathys Tel.
