Pakistan Says Balochistan Operation Ends After 216 Militants Killed
Pakistan’s military says operations in Balochistan ended after intense fighting, killing hundreds of militants and weakening networks threatening civilians and regional security.
Pakistan’s army announced the end of a major security operation in Balochistan, saying 216 militants were killed during coordinated actions against armed groups.
The military claimed the militants posed an imminent threat to civilians and alleged that the fighters were backed by India, an accusation New Delhi has repeatedly denied.
According to the army statement, clearance operations significantly weakened militant networks, while forces seized large stockpiles of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and foreign-origin military equipment.
Security officials say the operation followed coordinated attacks by Baloch separatist fighters across multiple districts, which killed 22 soldiers and at least 36 civilians.
Images released after the clashes showed militants using advanced weapons, while investigations indicated some American-made arms traced back to Afghan security force stockpiles later surfaced among militant groups operating in Pakistan’s Balochistan region, raising regional security concerns.
Authorities say security forces will continue intelligence-based operations to prevent militant regrouping, while regional tensions over insurgent violence and cross-border accusations remain high.
