Former Bears quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko's stock soars with Seahawks, QB Sam Darnold
Seahawks quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko had a tough couple of years as the Bears cleaned house offensively in 2023, then endured the same with the Saints at the end of last season, but he landed in a good spot when the Seahawks hired longtime colleague Klint Kubiak and he brought Janocko to Seattle.
Now, with Kubiak expected to be hired as Raiders head coach following Super Bowl LX on Sunday against the Patriots, Janocko could be in prime position for a promotion.
“I made a promise to myself and my wife that we’re really just going to enjoy this week,” Janocko said. “The last couple years have been trying at times, so we getting to be part of this success, we really want to enjoy that. Whatever happens after that, that’s fine.”
Janocko, 37, was the Bears’ quarterbacks coach for Justin Fields in 2022 and ’23 and learned “a lot through the good and bad” of that experience.
With Fields, whom the Bears traded after the 2023 season to clear the way for Caleb Williams, Janocko saw growth “at times” and called him “one of the elite runners in the NFL” during their two seasons together. Conversely, he regretted that they didn’t make more progress in his anticipation in the pocket and ability to read coverages.
