San Jose police seek help in identifying fatal hit-and-run suspect
SAN JOSE – Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run last week in San Jose.
The collision happened between 5:45 and 6:05 p.m. on Jan. 25 at South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Roberto Manuel Villarreal, was crossing the roadway when he was hit by the suspect, Shih said. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Witnesses described the suspect as a 30- to 40-year-old man with a beard, Shih said. He was last seen wearing a blue sweater with either SJSU or SDU in yellow letters.
The suspect was driving a possibly dark-colored sedan.
Shih said the suspect briefly approached witnesses at the scene before picking up what was believed to be the bumper of his vehicle. He then drove away from the scene.
