Kevin Durant: "A Bathroom Mural" Is Enough for My Warriors Legacy
The year was 2016, when the NBA was rocked by a move that even upstaged LeBron James’ infamous “Decision” news that sent him to the Miami Heat, joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. On July 4 of that year, Kevin Durant announced to the world that he was leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to join an arguably already stacked Golden State Warriors roster, which included Steph Curry, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
Durant’s choice back then was met with mixed feelings, with many people outside of the Bay Area not on board with the idea. Naysayers didn’t faze the Warriors, though, as the team with Durant went on to win two NBA Championship titles. And it’s these titles that have former NBA player, Paul Pierce, claiming Durant deserves a Golden State Warriors statue. However, Durant shockingly disagrees and for good reason.
Paul Pierce Thinks Kevin Durant Earned a Golden State Warriors Statue
On a recent episode of the No Fouls Given Podcast, Pierce and co-host Danny Green discuss the legacy of Durant with the Warriors. Pierce, without hesitation, says he’d give Durant a statue at the Golden State home arena, crediting the two championships Durant helped the team win and his two Finals MVPs.
Green, on the other hand, wasn’t really that supportive of the notion, believing Durant earned his statue in Oklahoma City, given that Durant has spent the most time with that squad. However, Green did suggest that Durant deserves to have his jersey and number retired in Golden State. Check out the exchange below.

Kevin Durant Thinks the Championship "Banners Are Enough"
Never one to shy away from social media, Durant took to X (formerly Twitter) and voiced his disagreement with Pierce. In one reply, Durant states, “I passionately disagree. A lil mural outside the men’s bathroom maybe, but even that may be too much. Them banners are enough if I’m being honest.”
Now, Durant wasn’t snubbing the Warriors organization. As a matter of fact, his reasoning can be found in the following comment to Durant’s Pierce response, to which Durant replied “Zackly”:
“Love the self-awareness. Statues are meant for players who built something AND won. You built up OKC but never won. And you won in GS but didn’t build shit.”

Offering my hot take on the issue, I tend to agree with Durant on this one. After all, I don’t think LeBron deserves a Lakers statue, even though he helped the team win a championship. LeBron’s statue belongs in Cleveland.
