Red Sox Add Another Player To World Baseball Classic
According to new intel from The Boston Globe, Boston Red Sox utility man Nate Eaton will be participating in the upcoming World Baseball Classic as a member of the Great Britain team.
Other Red Sox players already confirmed for the WBC are Jarren Duran (Mexico), Ceddanne Rafaela (Netherlands), and Wilyer Abreu (Venezuela).
Eaton’s 2025 MLB season marked a notable step forward in his career, as he transitioned from the Kansas City Royals organization to the Red Sox. After signing as a minor league free agent following the 2024 campaign, Eaton earned opportunities with Boston and delivered solid production in a utility role.
In 41 games for the Red Sox, primarily at third base and in the outfield, Eaton batted .296 with a .348 on-base percentage and .383 slugging percentage, good for a .731 OPS over 81 at-bats. He recorded 24 hits, including four doubles and one home run, drove in four runs, scored 16 times, and stole nine bases while being caught stealing twice.
His performance provided valuable depth during the regular season, contributing positively with a 0.1 WAR despite limited playing time. Eaton also made Boston’s playoff roster and notched hits in the Wild Card Series against the Yankees.
Overall, Eaton’s MLB career through early 2026 spans parts of three seasons. Drafted by the Royals in the 21st round in 2018 out of Virginia Military Institute, he debuted in 2022 and appeared in 44 games that year, hitting .264 with one home run and 11 steals.
His 2023 stint with Kansas City was brief and challenging (28 games, .075 average). After time in Triple-A Omaha in 2024, his 2025 move to Boston revived his big-league presence. Across 240 career at-bats, he owns a .233 average, two home runs, 17 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases, showcasing his speed and contact skills as a versatile bench player.
As spring training approaches in February 2026, Eaton is positioned to compete for a utility spot and offer depth in the infield and outfield.
