Two Man United stars absent from training ahead of Tottenham clash, Carrick to give update tomorrow
Manchester United trained today at Carrington ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford this weekend.
The club officially confirmed that both Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt were notable absentees from the session, raising fresh fitness concerns.
Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick is expected to address their situations in greater detail during his press conference tomorrow.
Mount missed the Fulham clash after picking up what was described as “a knock”, sparking early concerns over his availability.
Carrick had previously played down the issue, insisting the injury was not serious.
Mount had been pushing for a return to the starting XI, especially after Patrick Dorgu suffered a hamstring setback that opened up opportunities.
Matheus Cunha seized that chance on the left flank and delivered in style with an eye-catching performance against Fulham.
He scored United’s second goal and also won the free-kick that led to the opening strike.
Alongside Mount, De Ligt’s continued absence has raised eyebrows inside the camp.
The Dutch defender has been sidelined since December with a back injury, disrupting what had been a remarkably consistent start to the 2025-26 season.
Before his fitness issues, he was the only United player to be ever-present in the Premier League this campaign.
The club had initially expected a swift return, but the lack of detailed updates has only added to the uncertainty surrounding his recovery.
The Red Devils have won all three games under Carrick.
Spurs arrive on the back of a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Manchester City, a result that will have boosted their confidence.
However, Spurs are still missing several key first-team players, tilting the balance in United’s favour.
With momentum on their side and Old Trafford behind them, anything less than victory would be viewed as a disappointing outcome for Carrick’s in-form Red Devils.
