Have Any Of Trump's Kids Seen Melania's Documentary?
In the week since Melania, the film about the 20 days leading to Melania Trump’s second term as first lady, premiered, much has been written about who (if anyone) is flocking to theaters to watch the controversial Brett Ratner-directed documentary.
After viral screenshots of ticketing sites showing mostly empty theaters, Amazon MGM’s $75 million documentary about the First Lady made $7 million on its opening weekend, almost 60% above industry predictions, per The New York Times. This number has since been called into question by Puck News’ Matthew Belloni and box-office expert and former IndieWire Editor Tom Brueggemann, who investigated evidence of bulk buying and “fake ticket sales,” according to The Daily Beast.
All of this has led many to question who is watching Melania? A question that may yield different results depending on your demographic and location—Variety reports that older white women in red states made up the majority of audiences. But do any of those audience members include President Trump’s children?
It was a poor showing from the Trump family at the documentary’s premiere at the newly renamed Trump‑Kennedy Center on Thursday, January 29. The President joined his wife on the red carpet, as did Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée, Bettina Anderson, per Newsweek.
Eric Trump and his wife were not in attendance, and neither was Tiffany Trump. Notably, Barron Trump, who briefly appears in the doc, was not there either.
The president told CBS News that his and Melania’s 19-year-old son saw it a couple of days ago and “loved it.” He claimed other family members planned to view it over the weekend, but didn’t say who. “I got to see it for the first time the other night. It’s really good. Glamorous — very glamorous. We need some glamour,” the president told reporters.
The previous Saturday, hours after federal agents killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis amid protests against ICE, Melania hosted a screening at the White House, which Barron attended, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Ivanka Trump, who is often alleged to have a fraught relationship with her stepmother, was photographed in Miami on the night of the premiere. It is unclear if she has seen what is being dubbed a propaganda film.
Most of Trump’s cabinet members showed their support. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins all walked the red carpet.
