'Full House' Star Dave Coulier Shares Encouraging Update Amid Cancer Battle
Actor and comedian Dave Coulier has been battling cancer since October 2024, when he was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Coulier announced he was cancer-free in March 2025, only to reveal nine months later in December that he had been diagnosed with tongue cancer.
Now, the 66-year-old Full House star has more good news to share. During an appearance on Good Morning America for World Cancer Day Wednesday, Coulier told host Robin Roberts his tongue cancer is now in remission.
"It’s been a roller coaster ride for sure," Coulier said, via PEOPLE. "I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been."
Coulier offering encouragement to others
Doctors discovered a p16 squamous carcinoma, a type of head and neck cancer, where the tongue meets the throat during a routine six-month checkup and PET scan.
After undergoing more than 30 rounds of radiation, that cancer is now in remission, and Coulier is asking people to make sure they take care of their own personal health.
“I feel as though I can help people,” he said on GMA. “I never wanted to be the poster boy for cancer, believe me. But now I feel like I can encourage people to get those prostate exams and mammograms. Talk to your doctors and get ahead of this.”
“Even though I'm in remission, I feel like cancer's always in the rearview mirror behind me. ‘Ehh, you trying to pass me here?’ So early detection really means everything," Coulier added.
A positive attitude goes a long way
Coulier cited his wife Melissa and former Full House co-star John Stamos as major parts of his support system.
He also mentioned how maintaining a positive outlook helped him in his recovery.
“[Radiation] has totally different side effects. It can steal parts of your life away from you, psychologically, emotionally and certainly physically,” Coulier said. “And I wasn't going to allow cancer to do that. I was going to laugh my way through it and keep the people that I love close to me. And that helps.”
