Diamondbacks Sign Silver Slugger To One-Year Contract
According to multiple reports, the Arizona Diamondbacks have signed veteran first baseman Carlos Santana to a one-year, $2 million contract.
Santana hit .219 in 2025 average across 124 games and 415 at-bats. He recorded 91 hits, including 11 doubles and 11 home runs, while driving in 54 runs and scoring 49 times. Santana drew 52 walks, struck out 91 times, and added seven stolen bases. His on-base percentage stood at .308, with a slugging percentage of .325 and an OPS of .633. He split time between the Cleveland Guardians (where he played the majority of his games) and the Chicago Cubs.
The season represented a step back in production compared to prior years, as Santana’s power output remained modest with just 11 long balls, though he continued to provide steady defense at first base.
Over his career to date, spanning 16 seasons with multiple teams including long stints with the Guardians, Santana has compiled a .241 batting average, 1,880 hits, 335 home runs, 1,136 RBIs, and 65 stolen bases in over 7,800 at-bats.
Known for his plate discipline and consistency, he ranks among switch-hitters with notable longevity and has delivered more than 20 home runs in several seasons earlier in his tenure. As he prepares for what could be his 17th MLB campaign, Santana’s track record of durability and professionalism continues to make him a valuable clubhouse presence and contributor.
