Senate powerhouse Mitch McConnell hospitalized
Senate powerhouse Mitch McConnell was rushed to a hospital Monday night "in an abundance of caution" after being stricken by "flu-like symptoms," his spokesperson David Popp revealed Tuesday.
The Kentucky Republican was forced to sit out crucial Senate votes on both Monday and Tuesday, Politico noted. Popp insisted McConnell's "prognosis is positive" and claimed the GOP stalwart is staying in "regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business."
McConnell has had several notable health scares in the last few years, mainly in 2023, when he suffered a fall and concussion when he tripped at a Washington, D.C., dinner event. He also suffered a minor rib fracture in that incident and was hospitalized for several days.
That same year, he experienced multiple episodes in which he abruptly stopped speaking and appeared to freeze. That includes a July 2023 incident in which he froze for about 20 seconds during a Senate leadership press conference at the Capitol.
