Minute Maid Quietly Discontinuing Beloved Juice Item After Decades of History
As the years go by, tastes change, and that means items that were once popular often get discontinued.
It's a sad thing, especially if it's an item that you've held onto for many years. But, that's just life, and as decades pass, brands have to make difficult choices on what works for them in 2026 and what doesn't.
According to a report from Good Housekeeping published on Friday, January 30, Minute Maid is discontinuing one of its items that has been a staple for decades.
Longtime Item Being Discontinued
They're a regular in frozen aisles of grocery stores, and they're available in orange flavors and more. Now, according to the report, the Coca-Cola Company has made the decision to discontinue Minute Maid's line of canned juices in the U.S. and Canada.
So, why are they making this change? According to Good Housekeeping, it's due to changing consumer preferences.
"With the juice category growing strongly, we’re focusing on products that better match what our consumers want," a spokesperson for The Coca-Cola Company, the parent company of Minute Maid, told Good Housekeeping in a statement. They added that the frozen juices are being discontinued in the first quarter of the year and that "in-store inventory available while supplies last."
So, if you want to get your hands on this little piece of nostalgia, now is your chance.
The frozen canned juices are available in orange juice, which seemed to be the most popular, as well as lemonade, limeade, pink lemonade and raspberry lemonade.
The History of Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
Frozen orange juice concentrate actually has an interesting history. According to the National Museum of American History, it was created during World War II by scientists at the National Research Corporation, to help better the quality of food for American troops. "In the early 1940s, soldiers were supplied with lemon crystals for Vitamin C, but too many of the crystals went uneaten because of the unpleasant taste," the museum states of their research.
That taste caught on. After the war, the technology to create the concentrate was patented, and the product became a household favorite.
Minute Maid has been in business for 75 years. "Here at Minute Maid, we pride ourselves on our history of providing quality products to families around the world," the company states on their official website. "With more than 100 different flavors and varieties from orange juice to apple juice, and lemonades to punches, we use the freshest ingredients to ensure you get the highest quality juices."
