So long as ICE agents, in their zeal to fulfill deportation quotas, targeted Hispanics or people of color, most white Americans did not fear for their safety, even if they deplored such tactics. But the murder by federal officers of two white US citizens at close range changes that, and the public backlash won’t fade soon.
