Why the NFL Does Not Pay Super Bowl Halftime Show Performers
An interesting fact is that the NFL does not pay any entertainer to perform at the Super Bowl, and this includes halftime show performers, “America the Beautiful” and “National Anthem” singers, and more.

The NFL previously confirmed to Forbes, “We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs.”
“The halftime show at the Super Bowl remains a highly coveted spot for many artists,” entertainment attorney Lori Landew told the mag. “Some of those artists do not see their appearance as a political statement, nor do they see the show as a cultural battleground, but rather view their live performance as an opportunity to entertain an enthusiastic crowd and to share their music and their talent with millions of viewers.”
Often, the artists see a huge bump in streaming numbers after the Super Bowl, and there’s often a bump in sales for tickets, tours, and more. This is of benefit to them, as it’s a huge stage with lots of viewers listening to their music!
For example, in 2020, Shakira saw a 230% increase in her songs being streamed and Jennifer Lopez also had a huge increase at 335%.
