Career So Far: Munashe Garananga

Born in 2001 in Harare, Zimbabwe, the towering defender started his football journey with the Prince Edward Academy in his home nation before moving to third-tier South African club Ubuntu Cape Town.
A year of solid showings in Cape Town saw Garananga switch continents, making the move to eastern Europe to join Belarusian side Dynamo Brest, who he helped to a solid mid-table finish in the 2022 season.
Following 28 appearances and two goals in Belarus, he would move on in January 2023, joining Moldovan outfit Sheriff. There, Garananga would secure silverware for the first time in Europe, winning both the Moldovan Liga and Moldovan Cup in 2023.
He played every match en route to Moldovan Cup success with Sheriff, including playing the entirety of the final – which was decided after extra time via a penalty shoot-out. During his time in Tiraspol, he also played every single match in all three UEFA competitions within one season as the club reached the knockout stages of the Conference League.
Garananga was Belgium-bound for his next move in February 2024, playing 18 times to help Mechelen to an eighth-place finish in the Belgian Pro League.
Another switch promptly came, however, as the defender was transferred to Copenhagen in July 2024.
In his first season in Denmark, Garananga secured yet another league and cup double – his second since arriving in Europe – before performing in the UEFA Champions League this season for the Danish champions; playing six times across the qualifiers and competition proper.
After picking up a number of youth caps for Zimbabwe, our latest addition made his senior international debut for The Warriors in November 2023 in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria – while playing his club football for Sheriff.
Since then, Garananga has been a regular starter for Zimbabwe in their FIFA 2026 World Cup and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers; accruing 17 caps in total to this day while being utilised mostly as a centre-back but also occasionally at right-back.
He appeared twice at AFCON in December, in his nation’s sixth appearance at the tournament, as Zimbabwe narrowly lost out to Egypt and South Africa in group stage clashes.
