Garananga: No Hesitation To Join Hibs
Munashe Garananga is “very happy” to have completed a late loan switch to Hibernian on Deadline Day from FC Copenhagen.
The 25-year-old centre-back is our sixth and final January transfer window recruit, signing on until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Garananga’s arrival bolsters David Gray’s defensive options – with the powerful, technical defender offering great support for our backline.
Speaking to Hibs TV for the first time, ‘Gara’ revealed his excitement at joining the Club after getting a late call to inform him of Hibs’ interest.
“I'm very happy to be here. I'm happy to play for this team. It's historically one of the biggest clubs in Scotland, so I'm happy to be here.
“It happened through my agent. We were getting to the last day (of the transfer window), and I wasn't sure what was going to happen, and this came about, and I was ready to take this opportunity.
“It was very quick. I got the call in the afternoon – I was actually taking a nap – and then I got the news, and I was ready to go.”
Garananga has already played in several countries across Africa and Europe, enjoying great success in Moldova and Denmark – where he won league and cup doubles in both nations, with Sheriff and Copenhagen, respectively.
Now, the Zimbabwean international, who performed at AFCON in December 2025, is fully focused on the task at hand with the Hibees.
“It's just a thing of wanting to compete, to want to do great things. I had a conversation with the Head Coach, and we spoke about wanting to get to Europe in the next season as well.
“I think it's an exciting challenge for me to just keep going and get the Club's ambitions up.
Garananga has played elite European football in the UEFA Champions League and competed in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Zimbabwe in December; two extremely valuable experiences that the defender believes will help him face off against “big strikers” in Scottish.
“(Champions League football) has helped me a lot in my career. I've played against very big teams, against very big players, and I'm just glad that it gave me a lot of experience as a young defender. The experience part is what I'm grateful for.
“(AFCON) was such an amazing experience, because it was my first time to represent my country in a major tournament. I think it was a great experience. I loved it.
“I think there are big strikers here, and I love a challenge. I love to go hard every time. I have a decent level on the ball as well. I think it will work well together.
“I'm very much excited for this opportunity. It's another step in my career to get to where I want to be one day. I'm very happy to be here and taking this step.”
