Jogger hit and killed by driver in Palo Alto
PALO ALTO – A jogger died Sunday from injuries she suffered just days earlier when she was hit by a driver in Palo Alto, police said.
The collision happened just before 7:25 a.m. Friday at Oregon Avenue and St. Francis Drive, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
The jogger, described as a woman in her 50s, was taken to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s identity after it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.
Police said an initial investigation revealed the woman was jogging westbound in a crosswalk when she was hit by a driver making a left turn onto Saint Francis Drive from eastbound Oregon Avenue.
The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, but police said it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a role.
